Here at Copper Hill United Methodist, one Sunday in December, the children lead a special service that has traditionally been called “The Hanging of the Greens.”  This year it was on December 8.  Actually, it includes much more than just the bringing in of the greenery to decorate our beautiful curved 19th century altar rail.    There are liturgical parts that open the service and carols interspersed throughout for the congregation to sing.  The children also bring forward other symbols of the season.  The church has a beautiful white ceramic manger set.  After several symbolic kinds of greenery have been laid, and the bells have jingled on their way to the front, then each child carries one piece of the manger set forward and places it on the altar table.   Two children also served as ushers.  Finally, after a brief summary by Pastor Kelvin, the children led the congregation in lighting the candles, reminding us all again that Jesus came to earth to be the light of the world.  All the pictures in this gallery were taken at that service this year by Nancy Collins.
