Our Source of Hope

Watch the service

Advent begins with a focus on hope

The quintessential Advent carol, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel was the theme for the first Sunday service of Advent 2020 at Copper Hill. It’s theme of expectancy sets the tone for the season. Pastor and JoAnne explained how three of the names for Jesus that are part of the carol can help us understand how Jesus gives us hope. Emmanuel reminds us that God is always with us. Dayspring speaks to us of the spiritual light that Jesus brings into our lives. And “Key of David” reminds us of the authority that Jesus has to open doors of opportunity for us. Indeed, he has already unlocked the way for us to have a heavenly home. The carol is derived from “O” antiphon’s (short sayings) which have been recited in monasteries in the days before Christmas for more than a thousand years so it is one of the oldest hymns we sing.

Online Communion Service

Under the authority given by Bishop Bickerton, Pastor Kelvin Jones again led the congregation in the celebration of the sacrament of communion via Zoom. Pastor Kelvin teaches that God is not hindered in his working by distance. Just as Jesus healed the official’s son without ever seeing him (John 4:46-53) so Jesus is able to use the pastor’s blessing in a virtual service to bless the elements in the homes of those who are sincerely obedient to Christ’s command to remember him.
