Assurances drawn from Jesus’ appearance to the disciples by the Sea of Galilee

Today was Communion Sunday and Pastor Kelvin drew inspiration for us from one of the incidents in the Gospels where Jesus fed the disciples. The appearance of the Risen Christ to the disciples by the Sea of Galilee was only the third of his post-resurrection appearances to a group of disciples. Other appearances had been to an individual or two such as Mary and the women returning from the tomb and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Jesus had promised to meet the disciples in Galilee and he kept his promise. But he surprised them in the process, both when he appeared on the shore at dawn as they returned from a fruitless all-night fishing trip, and when he coached them to a miraculous catch. But Jesus’ care for them felt completely familiar. And for us too, God’s Spirit is constantly at work to feed our souls, strengthen us, and enable our good deeds.

Thank you. We need to remember this.

You are so right, Joyce. It is an important message for my wife and I too as we approach our second retirement.
