Celebrating Pentecost with Confirmations

Today was another joyful day of celebration at Copper Hill Church. Not only was it Pentecost Sunday when the Christian church celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, but it was also a day for three more junior teens to be confirmed. Ella Robison, Morgan and Malia Gabbidon have been part of the confirmation class whose journey was interrupted by COVID but they have persevered and their quest was finally completed today as Pastor Kelvin led the teens, their sponsors and the congregation in the confirmation liturgy. (The photo featured on this post was submitted by Nancy Collins. I plan to post close-up pictures from the family photographers later in the week.)

The serviced focus was on the Holy Spirit

Pastor Kelvin and JoAnne designed the service around the theme of the Holy Spirit and the morning message helped us to understand the Holy Spirit’s work better. First, it is important to remember that the Holy Spirit is a person not a force. He is the personal agent of Jesus at work in our lives and Jesus spoke of him with personal pronouns. The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and works in our lives from the inside out, encouraging, counseling, comforting, and guiding. But the work of the Spirit is not just for us. His power at work in us also energizes our lives so that they are spiritually fruitful and influence others for Jesus.
