Jesus is the Bread of Life

Jesus is the Bread of Life

Communion Sunday at Copper Hill church

Watch the service

In service this morning, we explored what Jesus meant when he said, “I am the Bread of Life.” His words were in dialogue with the Jewish leaders who had brought up the “bread from heaven,” the manna, which God had sent to sustain the Israelites during their desert journey. This prompted Jesus to point out that now we needed to look for spiritual sustenance, not just physical food. And Jesus pointed out that he would be the source of that transcendent food, a new and more effective kind of “Bread of Life” (John 6:27, 35). His life and death would provide for our spiritual needs and enable us to have life (John 6:32,33). While those who had eaten the manna still died, those who feed on the spiritual food that Jesus gives, who believe in him, learn from his Word and appropriate his work for their forgiveness, will have eternal life (John 6:47-51). After the message, the congregation shared in the sacrament of communion, connecting the words of Jesus about being the “Bread of Life” with the bread that is shared in communion.

Coffee Hour to return

Pastor Kelvin announced that next week Coffee Hour fellowship will return after more than two years without it because of COVID. This time of fellowship after service provides time to get to know one another informally over coffee or tea. It is part of the glue that unites us. This year, Coffee hour will have a brand new feature. We now have a number of junior teens in our congregation and we are planning to set aside a table just for them. They will also have a short devotional thought led by Lisa Griffin.
