Why is Pentecost Important?

Posted on June 7, 2022June 7, 2022

God’s Holy Spirit renews us so that our lives bless others!

Watch the service

Many people today are worn down emotionally by the stresses of modern life and the toll of COVID times. Yet at the same time, we are often too pre-occupied to avail ourselves of opportunities for spiritual renewal. The result is predictable.

As a result they do not enjoy the abundant life the Jesus talked about. They have little sense of purpose and are often self-serving. Something is missing!

June 5 was Pentecost Sunday and Pastor Kelvin reminded us that God desires to renew our strength through the Holy Spirit. Jesus preached that the Holy Spirit would be “living water” that would “flow from within” us (John 7:38-39). While all believers have the Holy Spirit, many do not keep “in step” with the Spirit (Gal. 5:25). But when we seek to walk with God then we find that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isa. 40:31). Our words become encouraging to others. We are able to show love even when it is difficult. And our lives become spiritually fruitful. God is at work through us.

The Holy Spirit does not set aside our powers and faculties but seeks to awaken and stir them into full activity, and to develop them into well-rounded perfection, thus making them channels through which He can intelligently influence and direct us.
