Christmas Day service meaningful

Watch the service

The Christ Candle burned brightly in the center of the Advent wreath as the congregation worshipped and prayed together on Christmas Day. There is something especially appropriate about being in the house of God on Jesus’ birthday. Service ran on one hour delay to allow folks time to complete early Christmas festivities at home beforehand.

Pastor Kelvin’s message helped us to see that the experience of the shepherds is parallel in many ways to our spiritual experience. First, he noted that they were surprised by the divine messenger. Often we too receive messages from God from unexpected quarters. Next the shepherds went and searched for the babe in the manger until they found him. Our search is a spiritual one. But the Bible promises that if we will seek God, we will find him.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13 NIV

When the shepherds had found the baby Jesus, they went out rejoicing and told others about their experience. They wanted everyone to know what the angel had said about Jesus and that they had found the words of the angel to be true. Similarly, when we have opened our hearts to Jesus as our Savior and discovered the joy of salvation, then it is our turn to go and tell those we meet about Jesus. We tell both the story of Jesus’ life and our own story of how Jesus has changed our life.
