Annual East Granby Prayer Event Held

National Day of Prayer Participants East Granby

The First Thursday in May is The National Day of Prayer and for many years there has been a prayer event in every town in CT to mark that day. Copper Hill United Methodist Church hosted the 2023 East Granby event. We were privileged to have East Granby First Selectwoman Eden Wimpfheimer reading Governor Ned Lamont’s proclamation for the day. Other platform participants included Linda Dewey, Morgan Gabbidon, Jacqui, Ryan and Reagan Luchina, Judy Holcomb, Pastor Kelvin Jones, JoAnne Jones, Rev. Mike Trazinski and Anna Griffin (not pictured).

JoAnne Jones designed and planned the service. The order of worship followed the general guideline for prayer often used.

  • Adoration
  • Confession
  • Thanksgiving
  • Supplication

The prayers of intercession for our state and nation were in seven areas; family, church, business/workplace, education, military, government, and arts/media&entertainment. Readers read appropriate Scriptures for each area before spoken prayers were made. There was also space and time for individual prayers for various needs. The theme verse was:

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:16B

Pastor Kelvin noted that the picture for the bulletin cover of National Day of Prayer featured a lion design. He always thought of the pulpit front design at Copper Hill as a lion as well.
