Easter service is a double celebration
Today was a day of rejoicing at Copper Hill Church both because it is Easter and because it is the first official public in-person service in our historic sanctuary in more than a year. We began outside so we could sing an Easter hymn together. Then we processed inside. Beginning with John’s record of the Easter story, Pastor Kelvin spoke about the importance of the eyewitness testimony as a foundation for our faith. While the choir is not allowed to sing inside under COVID protocol, JoAnne devised a way for them to lead the congregation in worship on Easter. As Pastor Kelvin sang the chorus, “Lord I Lift Your Name on High,” the choir used a combination of spoken responses, clapping and motions to lead the congregation in responding. Judy counted 31 at our first in-person service with 21 more on either Zoom or Facebook Live. Afterwards, Pastor Kelvin greeted attendees outside while JoAnne stayed with the computer to greet folks online. Judy planned the annual Easter egg hunt for the children. It was kept more socially distanced by using one color egg for each participating child.
Communion next Sunday
Next Sunday, April 11, will be our first time serving communion in-person in more than one year. We will be using the prepared cup and wafer sets according to COVID protocol. These worshiping online will still be able to join in by preparing their own elements ahead at home.
