God’s Love makes a strong foundation for our Legacy
Watch the service
Pastor Kelvin continued his series on Spiritual Legacy by looking at the foundations of our Christian influence in the love of God. In this week’s message titled “You are Loved.” we learned that God who is love by nature sent his Son Jesus to demonstrate his love to us. But God’s love does not come to completion, that is, it does not reach its goal until we are infused with God’s love and show love to other people. As John wrote,
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us.
1 John 4:16-17
Love is not just a great truth about God, it must also become a ubiquitous characteristic of ours. The way we leave a great spiritual legacy is by allowing the love of God which is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit’s presence in us to work through us in practical ways each day.
- We show respect and courtesy to others in speech and action. Pastor Kelvin reminded us that such courtesy begins at home.
- We learn love by growing in reconciliation. This means we learn to be forgiving as Jesus has taught us.
- We show love by intentionally crossing barriers erected by prejudice. We leave a legacy of racial reconciliation in our communities.
- We demonstrate love through hospitality shown in novel ways. At its base, hospitality is the ability to make others feel at home in our presence, in our space.
Every day we can look for opportunities to express the love of God to others, beginning at home and with extended family. Then we also extend our love to those we meet at work, in traffic, at church and while among friends. In this way we will leave a great spiritual legacy of love throughout our lives.
